Appropriation

 

「 Parody gives a new meaning to an existing work of art. May it be a new perspective or plain satire, the new meaning gives light to what is before unseen.」

At first, I'm unsure what painting to copy. After all, a lot of the paintings require a lot of props to make an appropriation of. I looked up sample appropriations of paintings online to have a glimpse of how people approach these kinds of parodies, and I stumbled upon Madonna and Child, which is the painting shown on the left.

Knowing that I have a dummy of a baby lying around for the use of my return demonstrations in my Nursing subjects, I decided to take on this painting. I grabbed a brown-grey blanket to mimic the robe of the mother. I tried to find an orange-ish spot in my house to match with the background. I also edited the photo and added a filter to make it a bit more vintage, with a black vignette and photo grain to pull off the style.
